At our school, we are committed to nurturing a culture of respect, inclusion and understanding, in line with our KIND vision. We ensure that all children develop an age-appropriate awareness of the Protected Characteristics through a range of carefully planned opportunities across school life. We promote this understanding in the following ways:
- Half-termly No Outsiders lessons
Each class takes part in a structured No Outsiders lesson every half term. These sessions are centred around high-quality, carefully chosen picture books that explore different aspects of diversity and inclusion. Each lesson focuses on a specific Protected Characteristic, helping children to develop empathy, challenge stereotypes and celebrate differences in a safe and supportive environment (please refer to our No Outsiders long term plan for further detail). - Weekly collective worship
Our weekly No Outsiders collective worship sessions provide a valuable opportunity to revisit and deepen pupils’ understanding. Within these sessions, there is a dedicated time for discussion, reflection and sharing ideas related to the Protected Characteristics. This helps children to connect these important values to their everyday experiences. - Whole-school displays
Displays around school play an important role in reinforcing learning. These are regularly updated to reflect themes explored during No Outsiders lessons and worship sessions. They serve as visual reminders, helping children to recall key messages and celebrate diversity across our school community.
Through these approaches, we aim to ensure that all children understand the importance of equality, respect and belonging, preparing them to be thoughtful and inclusive members of society in modern Britain.
