Bilsdale Midcable CE School

Bilsdale Midcable Chop Gate CE (VC) School

Bilsdale Midcable Chop Gate CE (VC) School is a co-educational school, providing a broad education for children aged 4 to 11. It is a village school which plays an active part in the life of our community.

The school is set in the heart of the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors, situated at the head of the picturesque Bilsdale Valley on the B1257, seven miles from Stokelesy and twelve miles from Helmsley. Our school serves Bilsdale, Raisdale and the surrounding villages with some children coming from outside our “normal admission” zone to be part of our small tight knit family.

The present building dates from 1909, but it has been extensively modernised over the years to keep up to date with the changing needs. Some of the most recent developments have been the doubling of the area of the Foundation/KS1 classroom and the creation of a purpose built library and school office and refurbishment of the kitchen.

Outside facilities include the use of two playgrounds and a sports field, both of which are enhanced by superb views of the North Yorkshire Moors.

The teaching and learning provision is lead by Mrs Grundmann. She is supported by a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Mrs Allison, who works alongside the children during lessons.

At lunch time the children are provided with hot meals. Sometimes the cooks use vegetables from our school garden in our school dinners.
